No, a referral is not required to book a session. However, to claim a Medicare rebate under Better Access to Mental Health, a referral and Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) are necessary. To claim a Medicare rebate under Pregnancy Support Counselling a you need a referral letter from a General Practitioner (GP) or medical practitioner.
To access mental health treatment under the Medicare Better Health Initiative you must be referred by your GP, a psychiatrist or a paediatrician. If a GP is the referring practitioner, they will need to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan before referring you. You should book a longer session with your GP for this.

Clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan can receive a Medicare rebate of $96.65 per session (for a registered psychologist) for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.
Please note that a review with your GP is required after session 6 to enable access to sessions 7-10.
Those referred for Pregnancy Support Counselling can receive a Medicare rebate of $70.85 per session, for up to 3 sessions per pregnancy.

Accessing Pregnancy Support Counselling:
Eligibility: Individuals who are pregnant or have been pregnant within the last 12 months are eligible for this service.
Referral Process: To access counselling, you need a referral from a General Practitioner (GP) or medical practitioner. The referral can be a simple letter or note addressed to an eligible allied health professional.
Session Details: Medicare provides benefits for up to three non-directive pregnancy support counselling sessions per pregnancy.
Telehealth Options: Pregnancy counselling services are available both in-person and via telehealth (videoconference or phone), providing flexibility to suit your circumstances.

Some private health insurance providers offer rebates for psychological services. Check with your provider to confirm coverage.
If you wish to use private health for your sessions with Amy you will be provided a receipt on payment of services to allow you to claim directly through your provider.

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

1 business day (0-24 hours) cancellation notice – full fee applies
1-2 business days (24-48 hours) cancellation notice – 50% of full fee applies
2+ business days (48+ hours) cancellation notice – no fee
Medicare or Private Health Insurance rebates do not apply to cancellation and non-attendance fees.
If you have a Third Party provider, your cancellation or non-attendance fee may not be covered by their funding, therefore, you will be required to pay the full fee out of pocket.

The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other, to determine whether we are a good fit and to make a plan. We will discuss your concerns, background, and goals for therapy. A plan will be developed to provide appropriate support moving forward.

It provides support for individuals and couples experiencing issues such as low desire / libido, pain during sex, anxiety around sex or body image, difficulties with arousal or orgasm, and the psychological impact of medical conditions on sexual wellbeing. It also helps clients explore gender identity, sexuality, and reproductive health concerns in a safe and affirming environment.
